Puerto Rico

Description: Last Monday I had the great oppurtunity of meeting a young boy from Puerto Rico. He loves soccer, food, and music. But he is not very proficent in the english language and does not like to read. However,I can tell that he is very intelligent and very experienced simply based off the places and things  he has seen and where he has been. My objective is to help create an interest in not only understanding english better, but to enjoy reading as well.

Analysis:  Because the boy likes soccer and music that I decided to gather information on his favorite muscian and introduce  what I find to him so that we can read it together. By going over this and helping him learn some things he may not have knwon earlier, maybe then he would not only understand english better, but also find an interest for reading.

Reflection: This is a very interesting experience and I hope by helping this boy and working with him that i may be able to learn not only more about him, but about myself as well.

Something I’ve Learned

This semester I ‘ve learned a great deal, but probably one of the most important things I’ve learned was just how important it is to set the tone for your class from the very first day of school. In my current BLOCK class Dr. Bond has introduced the importance of how to create rules and procedures that will enable students to be aware of how to conduct themselves while inside the classroom. As stated in a video watched in class, it is vital not to have too many rules because students simply will not remeber all of them, but rather get the number of rules to a minium of about 3-5. Always cover the procedures you wish your students to adhere to so that they are aware of what is considered appropriate and inappropriate. As a future teachert it is important to spend ample time going over what I would like form my students and addressing them about it in the early stages of the school year.
